(P.S. We blew off Mother's Day. It's too complicated to celebrate both, so we'll just have a Mother's Day do later on.)

Happy Birthday, Collar!
Today is the Collar's Birthday. He was a Mother's Day baby. Such a good guy.
When we came home from church, he did his usual after church nap, but he got to do it in the hammock today. :) When it was time to grill the ribs, he did it and Wiz stayed in the hammock with him, apparently getting lessons on how to look like he's working without actually doing anything.
Game Boy made his cake (he likes to bake, and is having a blast doing it at school in Home Ec).
He received some fun (and/or useful) gifts. A bag to carry to work from me (he's also getting a cycling jersey, but even though I ordered it 11 days ago, it's not here),
a pair of pigskin gloves for gardening and a mini multi tool (Wiz calls it a spy gadget) from the Wiz,
a set of carpenter's pencils and sharpener from Game Boy, and also from Game Boy, Mr Bacon and Monsieur Tofu, which Game Boy found last November and has wanted to give his dad ever since. (They were sold out at Christmas, so when we found it later, we bought it. He's had it since February!)
I think he had a good day. :)

Splinted!
Today at 11:15, we went to the hospital so that the Collar could be knocked out so he could have his nose fixed. We got home at nearly 3:00, which is a pretty long time for a 10 minute procedure. I guess everyone was having out patient surgery today.
We'll see how it looks on Monday morning, when they take off the splint. I'm not sure if I feel really bad for him, or am jealous that he doesn't have packing or a nose sling. He has his meds, he'll sleep pretty well tonight, and this will all be in the past.

Unexpected
I was planning on posting about Game Boy's trip to Seattle. (He's fine, by the way. Everything is easily remedied.)
I was also planning on posting about the knitting I've finished. (A bath mat and a pair of socks.)
Instead I'm posting about this:
The Collar broke his nose. This is right before we went to the ER. (He wanted me to take the pictures--I didn't make him wait. If you click on it, you can see how crooked it is. It hadn't really started swelling yet.
This is a side view from the hospital.

After the ER visit, when he's really started swelling. He was a wee bit spaced out on his pain meds, so please forgive his, um, glassy eyed appearance. Today he's still spaced out (pain relief is good!), and there's swelling, and where the bruising is going to show up.
I'll post more pictures as he decides I should. (I'm sure there will be pictures when his nose is set and splinted.)

And Now
The Collar is old, too. (My birthday is all of 18 days before his, so he always claims I'm old. Well, now he is too.)
I took the boys shopping for his birthday, to a place that has all kinds of crazy things. The Wiz found a great tin sign for him, from his favorite movie.
The picture is untouched. That's a pretty accurate picture of the Wiz.
Game Boy also found an absolutely amazing present for his dad. Can you believe this?
A Pigs In Space playset. It came with Miss Piggy, but he'll need to find a Link Hogthrob and a Dr. Strangepork. Isn't it just cool?!?

I'll keep him.
I'm not the only one around here who makes things.
The Collar made a pot rack. It's really nice to have--but I think I need nicer cookware!
We've decided that we are going to do things to this house before we get it ready to sell. This was one of those projects we'd been talking about and finally did. That's why I finally made curtains this year, too.

4 out of 5
pieces of The Collar's sweater are finished unless you decide to count the collar as a 6th piece.
I have finished the front left of this sweater. I have sewn this piece to the back at the shoulder. I thought about sewing in one sleeve, but really, that's a bit much. It's really too hot to be messing around with all of this wool. (Our backyard thermometer says 103 Fahrenheit, dudes!)
This sweater is almost long enough to be a dress on me, albeit a short one.
I *think* that I can finish it by October. That's about when The Collar would be able to wear it.
