It Made It

Last fall, the BBFs found a chrysalis in their herbs. They gave it to us, and we put it in our butterfly pavilion.Yesterday, it emerged. It's an eastern black swallowtail. Here are some pictures of it. I took them through the netting, so they aren't the best pictures.

GORGEOUS!!

One year, my daughter found a monarch butterfly crysalis. She put it a jar on our fireplace, and it actually emerged and she had the thrill of turning it loose in our backyard. (The area is a monarch nesting ground on their annual migration.) She'll never forget it, and I won't either!
